It will be interesting to hear what our biologist colleagues have to say
regarding the new book: OUR STOLEN FUTURE, by Theo Colborn, et al. It is a
synthesis of recent work being done on the effects of estrogen mimicking
compound in the environment. Some are anthropogenic--others naturally
occuring. Examples of the former are DDT, DES, and 'metabolites' of some
plastics. Example of the later are clover, soybeans, etc. Recent article
in the New Yorker Mag, "Silent Sperm," is a piece of this. [I had forgotten
that Silen Spring was serialized in the New Yorker]

Already OUR STOLEN FUTURE has promted two articles in last
Thursday's Wall Street Journal (Mar 7, 1996). There is an excerpt from the book in the March 1996 issue of
Natural History Magazine.

I find the book easy, fascinating, and disturbing reading.

A separate item: --see yesterday's NYTimes Sunday Mag for a nice
article entitled

"Amigo Cantisano's Organic Dream."

If you've ever attended
the Asilomar Ecological Farming Conference, you are likely to been exposed
to Amigo Bob. If you've ever gone on his pre-conference farm tours, you
were probably impressed with his competance and his humanity.
