Dear Dairy-L,
I have appreciated the discussion of the past monthes. I would like
to present a topic that I am doing for an Independent Research project
in conjunction with my BT Degree.
The project is focusing on the development of a plausible working
model, for Lactating Dairy Cows, utilizing composted manure as a
manure storage technique and bedding in both Conventional and Free Stall
systems.
Conventional barn implementation appears to be in the form of a
static pile on a concrete pad. The application for the Free Stall
appears to be a bedded pack. The back ground of this suggestion is
that with a bedded pack in a Free Stall the cost of the facility
would be reduced, by not adding the stalls, and the entire
barn can be used as the manure handling system without having to do
excessive excavation. Both of these systems would have application
in water shed areas of New York, where I am from, and other areas of
the country where Nitrate contamination is a problem.
I have specific questions regarding the general animal health issues
including mastitis, however, all facets of practicality are of
intrest to me.
Thank you in advance for your support and responces.
