My name is Walter Garrison and I am an organic farmer who has operated a
community shared agriculture farm for the past few years. I am looking
for information based on people's experience and work to answer the
following questions:
1. What are methods of organic pest control and integrated pest
management that have worked successfully for you in the growing of the
following crops:
a) Tomatoes
b) Onions
c) Garlic
d) Lettuce
e) Cantaloupes and Melons
f) Beans
g) Cotton
h) Sugar Beets
2. What are the organic methods that you have successfully used to
eliminate the problem of weeds? i.e. redroot pigweed, thistle, etc.
3. What cover crops and green manures have you used after which
particular crops in order to improve soil fertility (i.e. accessing N,
P, K), reduce nematode populations and improve the soil organic matter?
Which preceding cover crops or companion plants have beneficial effects
for the crops mentioned above?
4. How have you designed your crop rotation to maximize yields of the
above crops and to maximize the fertility of the soil?
I would greatly appreciate whatever information anyone can give me with
regards to the above questions.
