Dear Joseph,

A piece very similar to yours was reprinted in "Crop Protection
News" (Weed Science publication - 7/95; pages 14-15) and showed the
responses sent by the concerned public when an alarm over "dihydrogen
oxide" was sent out to known environmentalists by an anti-
environmentalist (a lobbyist in D.C.). It was a "dirty trick."

The piece has been circulated among the "anti-environmentalists"
here at Iowa State, with such comments in the margins such as "see
how naive the public can be about environmental issues!"

It is not a popular piece of writing among those seeking
solutions to environmental problems here in Iowa and is not enjoyed
here, unless accompanied by some sort of disclaimer or explanation.

Sincerely,

Sue Jarnagin

Holy smokes! I feel like Orson Wells after the War of the Worlds broadcast.
My sincere apology to those tender souls who were offended, confused, or
rendered frightened by my posting. I promise to confine my future comments
to the roads and the weather. (Only *dry* weather, of course). ;)
