I would be grateful if you could send me any information on the following
points. I would also appreciate if you can indicate suitable reference
sources or potential contacts to obtain the following information.
1. Major environmental and agricultural problems in various water
basins of Syria - I gathered some information from the annual reports of
the International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA),
Aleppo, Syria but the information is not complete.
2. Hydrological data of the following rivers: Kabir, Orontis, Nahr, and
Barada rivers. - Water level, discharge, etc.- Agricultural productivity
in those basins
3. Existing and on-going water resource and agricultural development
plans and projects in Syria (Design, implementation and schedule, etc)
4. Environmental legislation and adminstration - Law/guidelines on
environmental impact assessment, quality standards, etc.
5. Socio-economic and natural environment -
(History of natural disasters, vegetation maps, areas affected by
soil erosion, locations of environmentally vulnerable areas such as
wetlands, locations of officially protected areas -)
6. Present air quality, water quality, regulations on agricultural and
industrial effluents, present condition of soil contamination, regulations
for prevention of soil contamination, etc.
I understand that it is difficult to get all the above information
in a short time. Therefore, please suggest some useful references from
where I can get such information.
