Need info on rural sociology study

A humble request on behalf of FORGE (Financing Ozarks
Regional Growth in the Economy; A community loan fund
for small farmers and rural enterprises):

Can anybody provide a citation for the study that looked
at two towns in California. Both towns were agriculturally-
based and had similar demographics. However, one town
went towards corporate agriculture while the other
remained primarily a small-farm economy.

Years later, socio-economic indicators of the two towns were
compared with respect to these factors.
