The Instiltute for Local Self Reliance has done a lot of research in the
area of the impact of biofuels on the environment (David Morris, in
particular) They should have their fingers on most of this data

most environmentalists see corn based ethanol as a transition to other
fuels from cellulosic feed stocks rather than expensive carbohydrates.
Perrenial crops such as hybrid poplars are an example where the issues of
soil errosion etc do not present the same problems.

At the present time, the iissue is primarily economics and technical-
csot for reliable cellulosic feed stock system and the subsidy of the
fossil fuels- thoe old arguments
