Are you concerned about the future of rural communities and family
farms? Building Hope for Rural Communities is the theme of the annual
meeting of the Nebraska Sustainable Agriculture Society, to be held in
Columbus, Nebraska, on February 24. The keynote speaker will be Dr.
Garth Youngberg, director of the Wallace Institute for Alternative
Agriculture and former USDA Organic Farming Coordinator. He will focus
on expanding community support for sustainable agriculture and creating
a concrete and positive vision for the future of agriculture in this
country.
Other workshops include direct marketing of meat and poultry consumers,
efficient use of warm- season grasses, nonchemical weed control, organic
gardening, growing and marketing herbs, creative strategies for
beginning farmers, and the future of the pork industry. The meeting
will be at the New World Inn in Columbus, with registration including
lunch at $20 for members and $30 for non-members (late registration is
an additional $5). For more information, write or call Cris Carusi,
