Position Description

JOB TITLE: Sustainable Agriculture Training Coordinator (0.50 time Academic Staff ).

LOCATION: Department of Agronomy, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences,
UW-Madison ; 1575 Linden Drive, Madison, Wi 53706

PURPOSE: To organize and coordinate sustainable agriculture
training activities developed by the Cooperative Extension
Sustainable Agriculture Task Force and cooperating agencies,
organizations, and individuals. The position will undertake special
projects as needed. It is a 1/2 time, one year appointment with
possible yearly renewal, dependent on funding and performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The responsibilities of the position
include the following plus additional responsibilities as identified
and appropriate.

o Organize, coordinate and implement educational training activities
planned by the CE Sustainable Agriculture Task Force.

o Assist in coordinating sustainable agriculture educational
activities for Wisconsin participants in nearby states.

o Collaborate with the SARE Chapter 3 regional training program.

o Collaborate with the Wisconsin Integrated Cropping Systems Trial
director and communications specialist to develop a variety of
educational materials and activities integrating the research trial
results with the sustainable agriculture training opportunities.

o Assist in developing training agendas, educational materials and
teach in educational activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

o Move and operate computers, office and audio visual equipment.

o Communicate via telephone and on-site to organize and arrange
educational meetings, tours and activities.

o Available personal transportation for use around the state.

o Personal mobility under agricultural field conditions and around
large animals.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

o An earned BS. degree in agriculture or closely related area.

o Experience in designing, organizing and implementing effective
education and training activities for diverse audiences in
agriculture.

o Demonstrated skills in working with diverse constituencies
including agricultural professionals in many different disciplines.

o Prefer technical knowledge and skills in agriculture in the broad
principles of farming systems and sustainability.

o Prefer knowledge of and familiarity with the University of
Wisconsin Cooperative Extension organization and programs.

SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience:
$16,000 to $18,000 for 1/2 time.

STARTING DATE: Position available March 1, 1996 or as soon
as possible thereafter.
