A few days ago someone requested information on farm pesticide use
statistics. As it happened I had recently run across some summary
tables while looking for other materials, but I have since deleted
the message. Since these tables are summaries, it might be best to
go back to the original source, depending on the information needed.

1) World Resources Institute. 1992. The 1992 Information Please
Environmental Almanac. Houghton Mifflin Company. Boston, MA.

pp36-37 contain tables titled "Farm Pesticide Use in the United
States 1964-1990" and "Types of Pesticide, Volume of Use in the
United States, and Major Crop Uses".

The sources for these tables are cited as USDA and a National
Research Council report (1987) titled "Regulating Pesticides in
Food".

2) National Research Council. 1989. Alternative Agriculture.
National Academy Press. Washington, DC.

pp45-46 (but also elsewhere) have graphics related to herbicide,
insecticide and fungicide uses. The sources for these figures are
from reports available from the Economic Research Service, entitled:
Agricultural Resources-Inputs-Situation and Outlook. The ERS order
desk can help locate these materials if not available in library:
1-800-999-6779.

These do not reflect the results of an in-depth search--but are
simply 2 sources I saw recently and thought might be useful as
starting points. I believe the Environmental Almanac has more recent
editions.
