Nutrilite, the health and fitness division of Amway Corp., has an
open position on its farm in Lakeview, CA. The farm is
approximately 600 acres and uses organic techniques but is not
registered as organic. In addition, crop processing is done on
site. The R&D group consists of 16 people in the areas of
Analytical Chemistry, Food Science and Sensory Evaluation, and
Agricultural Research. The Ag. Research group presently consists
of 5 people, with two openings (one listed below).

The job description follows:
Purpose:
To design, direct and participate in agricultural research to
support production of nutritional products. Responsible for long
range projects (from initiation through completion) that require
extensive research and/or development work including agronomic
suitability, cultural techniques related to crop production,
exploration and evaluation of novel nutrient sources, preliminary
process development, and appropriate documentation.
Specific Duties:
-Direct/participate in agricultural research (greenhouse and field
studies).
-Apply IPM and alternative agriculture technology/techniques to row
and herbal crop production.
-Design and conduct field, laboratory, and pilot-scale
investigations relating to crop quality and production.
-Participate in promotion of alternative agriculture techniques and
development of agricultural protocols and trouble shooting.
-Maintain an accurate, detailed, written record of all field and
laboratory experimental work.
-Write summary reports of the results of all work.
-Stay abreast of current knowledge in appropriate scientific fields
via technical/trade journals, seminars, training courses, etc.
-Perform other work as assigned.
Education/Experience:
-Experience in row and/or herbal crop production.
-Requires a Ph.D. degree in Agricultural/Food or Biological Science
(or related discipline); or an M.S. degree in Agricultural/Food
Science (or related discipline) plus two or more years of
agricultural research experience.
-Hands on experience in design and conducting of agricultural
research.
-Knowledge of plant pathology, entomology and soil fertility.
-Knowledge of commercial produce quality assessment criteria
desirable.
-Hands on experience with farm equipment and food processing
equipment related to extraction, separation, concentration, drying,
etc. desirable.
-Working knowledge of nutritional biochemistry helpful.
-Strong written and oral communication skills. Good
analytical/problem solving ability.
Due to company policy, I am unable to print a salary range.
However, it will be related to experience, and is competitive.
