New Report Available:

Getting organized to do meaningful multidisciplinary research on
sustainable, equitable food systems issues can pose challenges to
organizations and institutions. A new report from the University of
Wisconsin-Madison's Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems details how
we embarked upon this area of work, starting with our monthly Regional Food
Systems Seminar in 1994-95.

Its title is: Regional Food Systems Research: Needs, Priorities, and
Recommendations.

The report describes the process and outcomes of the seminar, which blended
analytical discussion, action case studies, and resource sharing among
researchers, policy analysts, food industry professionals, farmers,
activists and others. The result was a list of research needs, outreach
priorities, organizational action recommendations, and more. The goal of
the report is to help Wisconsin researchers, policymakers, and food industry
professionals get organized to do meaningful, multidisciplinary on food
systems issues such as enhancing regional food security and regional
self-reliance; measuring the impacts of energy-intensive food processing,
packaging, and transportation; and assessing the feasibility of alternative
food enterprises. Others involved in food systems research and activism may
find this report useful as well.
