Chuck's question on ramps:

'Ramps', in the northern forested part of New York, are an edible wild leek
that we used to dig in the mixed maple/beech/hemlock acid soils areas in
spring. Wonderful ==== in spring they are visible by their foliage;
otherwise, when the forest cover returns, less so. I would wonder if they
are endangered or threatened (species) in many areas.

The rural community in which we lived would also harvest morels joyfully
from the school grounds - morels are wonderful, if hard-to-clean mushrooms;
leeks are lilies.

Sorry, no scientific name.
