DuPont's GEO cotton

Howdy, all--

I am reminded by the December issue of Minnesota Food Assn.'s
newsletter that Dupont has petitioned for a determination of
nonregulated status for a cotton line genetically engineered for
herbicide tolerance, and that the USDA comment period ends on
12/26/95.

Would someone dink me with a reminder as to what mechanism they've
engineered this line with--what mode of herbicide action, that is,
that this tolerance is meant to cover, and therefore which
herbicides this engineering is meant to support the use of? Finally,
does anyone know of a comprehensive analysis of GEO cotton vs.
sustainably grown cotton, in the flavor of Bill Liebhardt's /The
Dairy Debate/ (comparing the technologies of rBST and rotational
grazing)????

Thanks in advance and a happy return to the light for all above the
Equator. The wheel turns, for those who keep track of such things, at
2:18 a.m. Friday (12/22) CST. You can feel a little hiccup in the
solar system. ;^)

peace
michele
