*Consumer Charter for Global Business, 1995.* (English,
French and Spanish). Consumers International. Charter
marks beginning of Consumers International "Code of
Conduct for Global Businesses" campaign, proposing rules
for transnational corporations (TNCs) that include
ethical and fair standards of production, marketing and
competition, as well as accurate labeling and provision

Strategies Toward Democratic Global Governance, 1995.*
Women's Environment and Development Organization (WEDO).
Describes power and structure of Transnational
Corporations (TNCs) and potential for voluntary codes of
conduct to improve TNC business practices. Provides
examples of multilateral, industry and NGO codes of
conduct for TNCs, and includes recommendations for using
codes of conduct as effective campaign tools. 8 pages.

*Transnational Corporations (TNCs) at the UN: Using or
Abusing their Access?, 1995.* Women's Environment and
Development Organization (WEDO). Examines role of TNCs
at the UN, and discusses how TNCs use and abuse their
power. Provides brief case studies of how TNC strategies
have weakened UN activities, including TNC involvement
in Climate Convention, Prior Informed Consent procedure
in the FAO International Code of Conduct on the
Distribution and Use of Pesticides, and Montreal

*NAFTA's Broken Promises: Job Creation Under NAFTA,
1995.* Peter Cooper and Lori Wallach. Identifies
specific job-creation promises made during Congressional
NAFTA debates by pro-NAFTA U.S. companies, and
investigates whether promises have been fulfilled.
States that NAFTA has not delivered the promised jobs,
and that real wages for Mexican workers have declined.
Primary focus is on manufacturing industries, but
examines some agriculture related businesses, including
California Tomato Board Association of Tomato Growers,
The National Corn Growers Association and Monsanto. 60

Canada-United States Trade Agreement (CUSTA) Technical
Working Group (TWG) on Pesticides. Reports on work done
by CUSTA TWG, formed in 1988 by Canada and U.S. to work
toward equivalency of pesticide standards and regulatory
processes. States that TWG has been instrumental in
promoting harmonization between Canada and U.S. through
development of opportunities for public involvement,
strengthened binational communications and harmonization
of import tolerances/Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs). 13
