Farm Bureau has an interesting tactic to increase their political
clout. If you want to buy insurance from them -- have to, even, as
rural insurance is hard to get -- you must enroll as a 'member.'

I expect that the majority of Farm Bureau 'members' are nothing more
than policy holders who had to become members to buy a policy, but
it allows Farm Bureau to say "We respresent x million members who (of
course) all think just like us..."
