Hello - I recently attended a lecture on the spread of infectious
diseases in regions where the soil is low in Selenium. Apparently,
Selenium and/or vitamin E deficiency in people is associated with
greater susceptibility to certain viral infections.
Anyway, I was wondering if any of you soil scientists could explain to
me why some regions have low Selenium. Is soil Selenium content static?
Is it affected by any human caused environmental impact? Can it be
changed? Enlighten me if you can.
Thanks, Alison Hiller
