I work with a non-profit organization called Nuestras Raices (Our
Roots) in the city of Holyoke,MA. We are a community-based organization
which works to create social change through urban gardening and greening
projects. We are based in and serve several low-income Latino
neighborhoods in the city. We work to create opportunities for economic
self-reliance, community and individual empowerment, and the improvement of
the health of the inhabitants and environment of Holyoke. We manage one
community garden and are in the process of establishing two new gardens.
One of the projects which we are presently working on is the
establishment of a library with literature about sustainable agriculture and
gardening practices, especially as applied to the urban environment. We
will be including literature printed in both Spanish and English, but we
are especially interested in locating sources for Spanish literature. We
would welcome any help in our search for printed material. We would be
especially interested in literature which is available for low costs or
free of cost, as we operate under a very limited budget.
Thanks very much for your interest,
Emily Kellert, staff intern
