The U.S. Department of Agriculture publishes an annual listing of the
agricultural lands in the United States owned by foreign persons. In Craig
County, Oklahoma for example, 15,926 acres classified as pasture land is
owned by persons from the United Kingdom. I made some calls to local
officials in OK but could not find anyone who could tell me why the British
would hold this land. Apparently, the land is the site of former mining
operations and has been stripped, with a value far below that of useable farm
land. Does anyone have an idea as to what the British investment is all
about???
