Dear Charles and Sanetters:

Breadseed poppies, the ones that are used by the baking industry are of the
species Papaver somniferum. They are annuals, with waxy-looking, grey-green
leaves and a more upright growth form than the perennial poppies. I know of
one source of breadseed poppies, but I am sure there are others. The source
is Shepherds Garden Seeds, 30 Irene Street, Torrington, Connecticut 06790,
phone: 203/482-3638. Their variety is called "Pepperbox". It is sold only
by the packet (a packet goes a long way!), as far as I know, but the people
at Shepherds may be able to help you find a wholesale source of seeds.
