Poppy seeds: Where do they come from

Colleagues:
I am an extension horticulture advisor with Washington State
University. I have a grower who is interested in perhaps growing the
species of poppy that produces the seeds for the baking industry. I don't
know what species of poppy is used or where in the world this item comes from.
