These initiatives will be the focus of an international conference at the
University of Chicago entitled "Sustainable Development in Rural Latin
America: Human and Environmental Consequences."
Conference participants, including prominent economists, ecologists,
anthropologists, development specialists and representatives of indigenous
and traditional peoples from seven countries, will discuss both the theory
and practice of sustainable development in the resource-rich, yet fragile
environments of Latin America.
